Professor Ümit Akbey was awarded a Competitive Medical Research Fund (CMRF) grant from Pitt Med School. His project “Molecular mechanism of amyloid formation in bacterial biofilms as potential targets for fighting antimicrobial resistance” applies solid-state NMR spectroscopy to obtain atomic-resolution structural information on amyloid fibrillar proteins in biofilms created by pathogenic bacteria.
